Time and World Stood Still
Has anyone watched the TV serial “Flash Forward” ? Thrilling to watch at first but confusing and boring in the end. Well, the show’s about every human being on the face of the earth suddenly and abruptly having their lives interrupted, while involuntarily going into deep coma for a split 60 seconds as if they all had been struck down by an unexpected bout of anesthesia or something … During their deep sleep or comatose state, they each see a vivid vision of what exactly is going to happen to them, or someone else, in the near future, and slowly but surely those visions come to pass one by one. Most of those visions are bad and tragic, so people will try to do anything to prevent the visions from coming to pass.
This is like the entire humankind coming to a mysterious standstill for 60 seconds. Nothing or no one was moving …. Now, you’d probably think this kinda thing only happens in movies or TV shows, right? WRONG ! It happened to me …
I was about 10 years of age and my sister was 9. We lived in a nice third-storey apartment that directly overlooked a huge basketball court from our wide window. Boys playing basketball, soccer or other games or just hanging out was a normal sight in the evenings. Those days, blackouts were pretty normal and rampant and it was during one of those blackout days that it happened.
Time was about 7pm, close to sundown. Basketball players and sounds of boys as usual outside the window. My sister and I were alone at home waiting for parents to come home from work. Suddenly the lights went out plunging the entire house into darkness. We remained calm as there was light coming in through the windows from the basketball court, so it wasn’t so bad. Besides we were already used to blackouts so panic was far from our minds. But then, strangely, it wasn’t just the blackout that plunged us into darkness, there also appeared to be deafening silence everywhere. Where on earth is the noise of the boys and basketball playing outside ?
My sister and I looked out the window, and lo and behold, guess what we saw ?? The basketball boys, balls, children, pets …. they were all standing still – FROZEN on their spots !
What the heck is going on, we thought. We thought we were dreaming or hallucinating or something, so we left the window for a while and went to play with our Barbie dolls or something (just saying … of course Barbie dolls did not exist that time, we probably played with some cheap paper dolls! ).
Five minutes later, we came back to the window … another 10 minutes passed, we came to the window again ….. Everyone and everything were still standing in the same spot and the exact same way as they stood 20 minutes ago ! It must have taken at least 20 minutes or so for the lights to come back …. and for the sounds of the world to be restored ! It looked as if the boys outside had no idea what just happened nor that they had just came in and out of a mysterious frozen time zone !!
Till today, my sister and I vividly remember that horrifyingly shocking event, and we’ve no explanation for it. I don’t know about my sister, but I haven’t told anyone because I thought no one would believe me. I finally decided to write about it in my blog today, hoping that if you are reading this right now and have experienced something similar, maybe you could share …. and perhaps we could try to figure why this bizarre thing happened to us.
I honestly don’t believe any world-renowned Scientist, psychologist, psychic, paranormal specialist, top-notch astronomer or astrologist could offer one bit of convincing explanation for this mind-boggling incident …. So I have no choice but to turn to the One and Only sovereign source from high above for explanation – GOD, and His Word – the Bible.
I decided to search out the Bible for answers and explanation, and guess what ?
Waddaya know, there indeed was one record of a special event where God made time stood still for one whole day, and another unique event when God reversed a shadow.
The Bible tells the story of a Joshua who prayed for the sun and moon to stop so that he would have extra daylight to fight enemies. God answered his prayer – the sun “delayed going down about a full day” .
And there goes another biblical story of a Hezekiah, in which God answered his request to move backwards by ten steps the sun’s shadow, moving it probably five to six hours on the sundial – that is, the sun appeared to move eastward instead of westward. God did it as a special sign to show Hezekiah that he would regain his health.
Time stopped for Joshua, and it ran backwards for Hezekiah. Joshua and Hezekiah both made lofty requests to the Lord, that the very heavens might be altered. Still, God answered their prayers. The sun, moon, and stars obey the Creator who placed them in the sky by the power of his Word. God can do what is humanly impossible.
But … this brings me back to my burning questions ….
What have all this got to do with me? Even if Joshua and Hezekiah were remotely related to me as ancient ancestors, I never prayed for time or world to stand still. I hardly even knew God’s existence at that age ! Why would God perform a miracle that is beyond my understanding or beyond Scientific explanation. What REALLY happened that day ??
My life is spooky but God is even spookier ! I guess as with all miracles, it is futile to speculate with wild theories. The Bible offers nothing more than two similar occurrences …. What does God want me to learn from my personal frozen time zone experience and how can I unravel the mysteries surrounding it ? Was it global or local time that stood still ?
Come on …. answer me God !
